SCHENECTADY, NY -- William Hython had a double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds and the Union College men's basketball team defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 73-65 in a Liberty League men's basketball game at the Viniar Athletic Center Friday night. Union is 4-6 overall and 2-1 in the league while RPI is 7-5 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Hython's double-double was his 24th of his career. He made nine of 15 shots. Deshon Burgess had 13 points with eight rebounds and Ryan Whelpley also had eight boards. Union had a commanding 50-32 edge on the boards and shot 40%.

Tom Horvat had a game high 23 points for the Engineers and four assists, and Asa Barnhill scored 13 with Marcus Giese led the guests with eight rebounds. RPI shot 40%.

The Dutchmen led by 13 at halftime, 48-35. With Union leading by four at 33-29 with 5:38 left in the first half, the Dutchmen then went on a 12-3 run over the next 3:17 for a 13 point lead. Union was up by 18 at 58-40 after a Hython layup with 12:08 remaining, but RPI got to with 10 at 58-48 after two free throws by Andreas Kontopidis with 9:13 to play in the second half. Union was up by 15 with 2:26 left but back came the Engineers, pulling got as close as eight at 71-63 with 36 seconds to play.

Union hosts Skidmore in Liberty League play Saturday at 4 p.m.
