DE PERE, Wis. - St. Norbert College kept three lengthy winning streaks going with an 82-62 win over Lawrence University in a Midwest Conference game at Schuldes Sports Center.
The Green Knights (10-2, 7-0 MWC) won for the 51st consecutive time against a Midwest Conference opponent and extended their home winning streak against conference foes to 35. The victory also marked the 13th consecutive win in the series against Lawrence (5-6, 2-4).
St. Norbert took a double-digit lead nine minutes into the game and never faced a serious threat from Lawrence the rest of the way. Mitch Winter's 3-pointer put the Green Knights up 17-6 at the 11:13 mark of the first half.
The Vikings cut the deficit down to 21-17 but St. Norbert went on a quick 6-0 run thanks to a conventional three-point play and a 3-pointer from D.J. DeValk for a 27-17 edge. Lawrence trailed 32-25 with 2:40 left in the half before St. Norbert went on a 9-4 run to take a 41-29 lead into halftime.
Lawrence opened the second half on a 9-2 run, getting all nine points from standout guard Jamie Nikitas. St. Norbert held a 45-40 lead with 16:37 left before a pair of 3-pointers by DeValk sandwiched around a Ben Bobinski triple put the Green Knights ahead 54-40 with 14:33 to go. The Green Knights never led by less than 11 points the rest of the way.
St. Norbert shot 51.8 percent (29-for-56) from the floor and was 11-for-22 (50.0 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. DeValk led St. Norbert with 17 points while Bobinski added 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Lawrence shot 43.4 percent (23-for-53) from the floor and was a frigid 8-for-23 (43.4 percent) from the free-throw line. Nikitas led the Vikings with 26 points and 10 rebounds and Mitch Willer added 16 points and 12 rebounds.
