DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team is off to its best start in program history as the Aggies won their sixth straight with a 74-56, non-conference win over visiting Widener University.

DelVal, which graduated eight players from last season, dropped its 2015-16 opener at Alvernia University, but has been victorious in every contest since then. Head coach Casey Stitzel's squad has also won seven in a row and 10 of its last 11 dating back to last year in the friendly home confines of James Work Gymnasium. Wednesday's loss dropped Widener to 4-4 on the year.

The Pride jumped out to a quick, 8-3 lead before DelVal ran off six straight for its first advantage of the night. The Aggies built the lead to four before Widener went on a 6-0 run, including four by Sam Smith, for a 20-18 lead with 6:51 left in the opening half.

It was all DelVal from there, beginning with back-to-back 3-points by freshman Andre' Butler, who came off the bench to spark the team. The Pride did score four of the next five before the Aggies countered with a 14-2 run over the final five minutes of the half to take a 39-26 lead into the break. Seniors Chris Moran and Barry Brockington had eight and four points respectively in the spurt, including a pair of treys from Moran.

Widener was never able to cut its deficit to single digits in the second half. The Pride still trailed by 13 when the Aggies scored eight of the game's next nine points for their largest lead of the game, 60-40, with 10:24 left. Moran had all eight thanks to a layup, a three-point play inside and a 3-pointer from the corner.

DelVal cruised the rest of the way as it shot 42.9 percent from the field and tied a season-high by draining nine 3-pointers. The Aggies held a 43-38 advantage on the boards, including 14 on the offensive end, and turned 19 Widener turnovers into 23 points.

Moran picked up his fourth double-double of the season as the forward/center finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds. He was 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. Fellow senior Zach Sly recorded 15 points and six assists while junior transfer Tyliek Kimbrough added 10 points. Brockington had nine points while Butler and Tyrea Williams combined for 12 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Laron Byrd and Sardayah Sambo paced the Pride with 11 points and seven rebounds apiece. David Nicholson and Nick Jackson followed with 10 and nine points respectively.

DelVal will look to make it seven in a row when it hosts Bryn Athyn College on Saturday, December 12.
