SALEM, VA --- Roanoke's opening 12-point run provided the difference in a non-stop offensive game, with the Maroons beating Eastern Mennonite 107-95 in Salem, Va., Wednesday night.  The teams entered as the two highest scoring teams in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and didn't let up as they combined to shoot 48.3%.

The Runnin Royals slide to 4-2 with the loss and even out at 1-1 in the ODAC, while Roanoke improves to 6-1 with a win in their first conference game.

The Maroons made their first five shots, including a pair of triples, as they jumped to a 12-0 lead just 2:05 into play.  EMU shot 0-2 with a pair of turnovers during what turned out to be the decisive stretch.

The lead ballooned to as many as 29 points during the first half, before the Royals ended on a 12-5 run to settle the score at 59-37 at halftime.

Roanoke still led 90-71 when Eastern Mennonite started a run with 7:13 left.

The men scored seven in a row to get within 12.  A three-point play by Jerome Jones (Charles Town, W.V./Washington finally cut the deficit into single digits with 1:45 left, 101-93.  He made a quick steal and layup to cap an 8-0 run, getting the Runnin Royals within 101-95 with 1:39 to play.

But the Maroons settled down, and that ended up being the last points for EMU in the 107-95 final.

Roanoke shot 52.6% in the game, including 13-30 from three point range.  The Royals were good but not good enough, clicking at 44.0% including 12-37 from outside.

Jerome Jones racked up his first career double double with game highs of 23 points and 13 rebounds.  Isaiah Harris-Winn (Frederick, Md./St. Maria Goretti) added 17 points and nine boards.  Maleke Jones (Charles Town, W.V./Washington) cashed in on 4-of-7 triples and added 19 points.  RaShawn Latimer (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) had 14 with a game high five assists. 

John Fitchett led five Maroons in double figures as he totaled 23 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals.  Carter Wright hit four three pointers and scored 17.

Eastern Mennonite has this weekend off before heading to Gallaudet next Tuesday.  Start time in the nation's capital is earlier than normal at 5:00pm.
