Kochka leads Tomcats over Redhawks

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team rolled to a 81-66 victory over the La Roche Redhawks in non-conference action at Beeghly Gymnasium Monday night.

Senior Forward Luke Kochka scored a season-high 23 points, one point shy of tying his career high. Kochka made 9-of-11 from the field, three of which were from behind the three-point line. He also added three rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore guard Tyreik Burton chipped in for 18 points. Burton made 5-of-10 shots from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line while also handing out four assists and grabbing four rebounds. Senior guard Khari Bess also recorded double-digit points for the Tomcats with 11. Bess had a game-high six assists and three steals. Freshman forward Brian Rowe recorded a team-high eight rebounds off the bench.

Thiel dominated the paint and on the fast break. The Tomcats scored 42 points in the paint, compared to 16 by the Redhawks. Also, the Tomcats caused 13 turnovers, which led to 18 points. On the break, Thiel scored 18 points.

The Tomcats will return to action Wednesday when they take on the Division I Youngstown State University Penguins. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the Beeghly Center on the campus of YSU. Fans can watch the action live on ESPN3 and on the Watch ESPN app.
