Thompson guides Nor'easters past UMF, 78-62

FARMINGTON, Maine -- Devin Thompson buried six treys and finished with 26 points to pace the University of New England in a 78-62 men's basketball victory over the University of Maine Farmington on Thursday evening (Nov. 19) at Dearborn Gymnasium.

The Nor'easters, who won their third in-a-row (3-1), received 20 2nd-half points from Thompson as well as all of the 10 from both Drew Coveney and Gavin Dibble. Thompson also had nine rebounds, while Coveney added a team-high 10 rebounds and six assists. CJ Autry scored 10 of his 11 points in the 1st half.

UNE trailed 9-4 in the early minutes before Autry hit back-to-back three-pointers and sparked a 13-0 run that culminated with five straight points from Ben Judson. After the Beavers rallied to take a 22-20 edge, Jean-Luc Parker notched five points as Big Blue closed with 10 unanswered to grab a lead at the break.

The advantage was never less than seven following halftime, and reached as high as 19 (71-52).

UMF (0-1) got 11 points from Sean Murphy, and 10 more from Nick Hilton and Andernee Dent. Eric Berry had a team-best 10 rebounds.

The Nor'easters return home to face Keene State College on Saturday (3 p.m.).
