CLAREMONT, Calif. – Conference Athlete of the Year. Academic All-District. Academic All-American. The latest accolades for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball player Tyler Gaffaney come from D3hoops.com which named Gaffaney first team All-West Region and West Region Player of the Year on March 16 when the awards were released.

Gaffaney is now a two-time All-Region selection and he becomes the first men's basketball player from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) to be named West Region Player of the Year since Occidental's Connor Whitman earned the distinction in 2008.

Chris Blees ('09, '10, '12) is the last CMS player to be named All-Region two or more times.

In 2014-15, Gaffaney led the Stags to a 22-7 record (CMS' most wins since 2012) along with the conference regular season and postseason tournament titles. CMS then advanced into the Round of 32 of the NCAA Division III Championships, before being eliminated from postseason play by East Texas Baptist earlier this month.

He led the conference in scoring at 22.5 point per game, which also ranked 10th nationally. He also ranked in the top-10 in the SCIAC in rebounding (7th), field goal percentage (3rd), three-point field goal percentage (2nd) and assists (2nd).

Arik Smith (Cal Lutheran – Second Team), Colin Zavrsnick (Chapman – Third Team) and Coltrane Powdrill (Cal Lutheran – Third Team) were the other All-Region recipients from the SCIAC.
