CLAREMONT, Calif. – For the first time in his decorated career on the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps guard Tyler Gaffaney (CGU) has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Basketball Team announced on Feb. 24 by Capital One and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Three teams consisting of five players from across the Division III landscape were selected for the men's team and Gaffaney landed on the second team.

Gaffaney is one of two West Region players on the men's team. The graduate student at CGU is pursuing an MBA. As an undergraduate at Claremont McKenna College, Gaffaney was a psychology and economics major.

This season, Gaffaney has led the Stags to an 18-6 record and helped put the team in the middle of the hunt for the conference championship. The Stags end their regular season schedule on Feb. 24 at La Verne. With a win, CMS would clinch at least a share of the SCIAC regular season title.

He leads the conference in scoring at 22.3 point per game and is second in field goal percentage (55.0) three-point percentage (45.4) and assists per game (3.6). He also is in the top-10 in rebounding. The Mill Valley, Calif. native has scored in double-figures in each game this season. He has scored 20 or more points 18 times and 30 or more points three times including a 35-point game against West Coast Baptist where he hit 7-of-7 from the three-point line.
