PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Maritime men's basketball team was knocked off on Wednesday evening as the squad fell to the St. Joseph's (LI) Golden Eagles by the score of 81-66 at the Danzi Athletic Center.

All five of Maritime's starting lineup each collected double-figures in terms of points as sophomore Isaiah Hayes (Jamaica, N.Y./Queens Teaching) led the way with 16 points, while also grabbing 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season. Senior Sean Corley (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) also had a double-double with 11 points and led the team with 12 boards, he fell one assist shy of his second triple-double of the season.

Senior T'Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas/Sunland Baptist Academy) was second on the team with 15 points, while freshmen John Liccese (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) and Patrick MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) each had 10 points on the nights. Sophomore Brendon Halligan (Durham, N.Y./Cairo-Durham) was the team's lone scorer off the bench as he drained a three-pointer in the opening half.

The Privateers started out the game strong with Gibson, MacDonald and Hayes getting the team off to a quick 6-0 lead. After a three-pointer by St. Joseph's, Gibson answered to give the Privateers their six-point lead back. MacDonald then sank a jumper, but the Golden Eagles were able to turn their eight-point hole into a one-point lead with a 9-0 run.

Maritime took the lead back from St. Joseph's on five separate occasions throughout the remainder of the half, as the game went to halftime deadlocked at 39.

Gibson got the team off on the right foot in the second period with a jumper just 34 seconds in, the Golden Eagles answered with a three-pointer to take back the lead as the lead changed hand a total of 19 times throughout the 40 minutes of play.

Corley then gave Maritime a lead back with an old-fashioned three-point play, and then the two sides exchanged three-pointers as Liccese gave the Privateers a 49-45 lead with 17:45 to go in the game. Maritime had a one-point lead with 16:28 to go in regulation. That was followed by a 24-5 run to take an 18-point lead down the latter portion of the game with 2:45 to go in regulation.

The Privateers were able to get the deficit down to single-digits after a Gibson three-pointer and a Hayes jumper to make the score 75-66. Maritime tried to get back into the game, hoping to make the Golden Eagles miss their free throws, however St. Joseph's went 6-for-6 down the stretch to seal the 81-66 win.
