The win is the second time UW-Stevens Point (19-4, 13-1 WIAC) has defeated a No. 1-ranked team, joining the team's victory over Williams in the 2003-04 national championship game. The loss is the first conference setback for UW-Whitewater (19-3, 12-1 WIAC) this season and snaps UWW's 13-game winning streak. The Pointers have now won nine of the last 11 meetings since the start of the 2010-11 season.

With UW-Stevens Point leading by one, Ritchay hit a three-pointer with 2:05 remaining to boost the lead to four. The Warhawks hung in to get back within a point before Ritchay drilled another three-pointer with 50 seconds to go.

Leading by four once again, Austin Ryf (Winneconne, WI/Winneconne) made four free throws on either side of a Quardell Young three, leaving UWSP's lead at three with 22 seconds remaining. The Warhawks got two looks at potential game-tying three-pointers but neither fell.

UW-Whitewater led 48-44 with 10:05 left after Cody Odegaard capped a 9-0 UWW run with a three. A little over three minutes later, a layup by Sean McGann (Baraboo, WI/Baraboo) gave UWSP the lead for good.

Jordan Lutz (Amherst, WI/Amherst) scored a game-high 22 points to record the second 20-point game of his UW-Stevens Point career and finished two points shy of his career-high 24 from Jan. 17 at UW-River Falls. Lutz shot 7-for-9 from the field, including 5-for-6 from behind the arc in the game.
