Titans, Vikings in CCIW First Place Tie after Augie Win

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball is in a first place tie with Augustana after the Vikings handed IWU an 82-56 setback at the Shirk Center on Wednesday, Feb. 11.

No. 24-ranked Illinois Wesleyan had a four-game winning streak snapped and is 17-6 overall and 9-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. The No. 11 Vikings are 19-4 overall and also 9-3 in the CCIW.

The loss ended a 12-game home win streak for IWU - it is the first home loss for IWU since March 1 (to Wheaton 87-66 in CCIW tourney final).

IWU fell behind early in the game, trailing by 10 with 10:08 to play in the first half at 23-13. After cutting the Augie lead to three at 29-26 with 5:39 left in the half, the Vikings went on an 11-2 run to grab a 40-28 lead with 3:06 to play and took a 42-35 lead in the locker room at halftime.

IWU, who led in the game for 18 seconds total, never got closer than six in the second half. Augustana scored 42 points in the paint compared to 16 for IWU and the Vikings held a 44-30 rebounding edge. The Titans committed 12 turnovers to nine for the Vikings.
