RIPON, Wis. - Playing in front of several Ripon College basketball greats on their annual Alumni Day Saturday afternoon, the Ripon men's basketball team made them proud, earning a season sweep over Cornell College with a 64-57 victory. The Red Hawks led for 32 of the 40 minutes, shooting 45 percent (22-49) from the field, while holding Cornell to 29 percent (20-68) from the field.

Cornell's largest lead came just a few minutes into the game when Tabari Carter connected on back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Rams a 10-5 advantage. Ty Sabin answered with two consecutive baskets, including a 3-pointer, to tie the score. Ripon would later take an eight-point lead when Sabin buried another jumper, but Cornell closed out the half on a 7-2 run, to pull within three at the break.

Ripon began to take control of the game in the second half, scoring six of the first seven points in the period. Cornell would later pull within two, before Ripon used an 11-3 run to take the first double-digit lead of the game on a Kyle Loughrin jumper with six and a half minutes to play. Carter connected on a 3-pointer with one minute remaining to pull Cornell within five, but Ripon made five of their final six free throws to seal the win.

The Red Hawks were led by Sabin's 28 points on 9-of-18 shooting. Loughrin added 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting, as he became the 30th player in school history to reach the 1,000 point plateau, and now ranks 28th in school history for career points. Brendan McCoy chipped in with 11 points off the bench, as he connected on three of his four 3-point attempts.

Cornell outrebounded Ripon 41-34, with more than half of their boards (21) coming on the offensive end of the court. The Rams were led by Carter's 16 points and five rebounds, while Nick Bobb posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 boards. Corey Davis chipped in with nine points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The win keeps Ripon tied for third place in the MWC standings and with Lake Forest's loss to Knox, opens up the possibility to clinch a Tournament spot next Saturday when the Red Hawks will travel to Illinois College.
