Brooklyn, NY --- Junior Egzon Gjonbalaj became the 19th player in Brooklyn College Men's Basketball program history to record 1,000 career points on Friday night, as the Bulldogs picked up a vital City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) victory over the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island at the West Quad Center.

With the win, BC improves to 17-4 overall on the year and 9-3 in the CUNYAC. Brooklyn also remains perfect at home this season with a 9-0 record, as the Bulldogs split the regular season series, avenging a 78-74 loss at CSI earlier this month back on January 3rd. The win also snaps a nine-game losing streak against CSI. The Bulldogs' last win against the Dolphins came on February 11, 2011 at Staten Island. BC won that game 67-62.

CSI drops to 14-6 overall on the season and 8-3 in conference play. The loss also snaps their seven-game winning streak.

Needing just three points to reach the 1,000-point milestone, Gjonbalaj wasted little time in etching his name into the BC record book as he hit a three-pointer at the 17:34 mark of the first half to give Brooklyn its first lead of the game, 5-4.

The Bulldogs would never trail again as the home team would lead by as many as 10 in the first period, 20-10, with 8:40 on the clock; before taking a 34-26 lead into the locker room.

Brooklyn would balloon its advantage back to double figures in the second half, eventually leading by as many as 27 on two occasions. Following a three-pointer from CSI's Frank Schettino that made it a seven-point game, 56-49, with 8:41 remaining in the game, Brooklyn would put the game away with a 22-2 run over the next five minutes to take a commanding 78-51 lead with 3:06 left on the clock and eventually cruise to its 83-63 victory.

The Bulldogs had five players score in double figures, led by starters Lorenzo Williams (17), Jai Kellman (15) and Gjonbalaj (14). Steven Diaz and Enees Nikovic provided an offensive spark off the bench with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Nikovic also pulled down 13 rebounds to register a double-double.

CSI was led by Will Fonseca's 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Schettino finished with 18 points and six assists.

For the game, BC shot 45.5% (30-for-66) from the field, while converting just 27.3% (6-for-22) from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs took full advantage of the charity stripe, going 17-for-21 (81.0%) from the free throw line.

CSI shot 37.9% (25-for-66) from the field, including 35.7% (5-for-14) from three. The Dolphins struggled from the line going 8-for-18 (44.4%).

Points off of turnovers were a key to the BC win, as the Bulldogs scored 27 points off of 19 CSI turnovers.

Brooklyn returns to action on Tuesday, February 3rd, as the Bulldogs will travel to Jamaica, NY to take on the Cardinals of York College in a CUNYAC matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm. BC will look to sweep the season series over the Cardinals, as Brooklyn defeated York, 75-63, back on January 6th at the West Quad Center.
