William Paterson Men’s Basketball Extends Win Streak to Nine, 80-66

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (14-2) extended its men's basketball winning streak to nine games with an 80-66 triumph against visiting John Jay (3-14) Jan. 19.

 

The Pioneers steadily built an 18-point lead by halftime (45-27) thanks to 50.0 (18-36) percent shooting from the field while limiting the Bloodhounds to a 9-for-32 (.281) effort. Junior forward Terik Bridgeman (Harlem, N.Y./Nia Prep) and junior guard Bright Mensah (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) led WP's first-half scorers with 10 points apiece.

 

John Jay twice pulled to within three midway through the second period, but a 13-2 Pioneer burst helped to put the game out of reach at 68-54 with 4:01 to play.

 

Bridgeman finished with team bests of 23 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots, while Mensah had 16 tallies, seven boards and a game-high five assists.  Senior guard Jaques Conceicao (Massama-Lisboa, Portugal/Francais Charle Lepierre) contributed 14 points and a season-best five steals, and senior guard Sandy Burgos (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) posted 11 tallies and four assists. WP finished with a .508 (32-63) field-goal percentage and out-scored John Jay 52-16 in the paint.

 

Senior guard/forward Kris Owens had 34 points and seven rebounds for the Bloodhounds. Senior guard Korede Griffith finished with seven tallies and eight boards.

 

William Paterson will host Ramapo Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 8:00 p.m.
