Monroe, Walton-Moss Lead Cavaliers to Top of CSAC

More news about: Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's basketball team took sole possession of first place in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with today's resounding 103-70 win over Rosemont College.

The victory, the Blue and White's third in a row, improved the club to 9-6 overall and 6-2 in the CSAC.  It also avenged its earlier loss to the Ravens.

The Cavaliers fired on all cylinders today at Nerney Field House, as eight players scored at least seven points with six scoring double figures.  All 10 Cavaliers who were dressed scored at least one point and grabbed at least one board.

Freshman Tyheim Monroe led the way with a monster outing, matching a career high with 19 points and grabbing a career high 21 rebounds in just 26 minutes.

Senior Aaron Walton-Moss recorded his fourth triple-double of the season and second in as many games, tallying 10 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists.  The senior's 13 dimes also tied a program record for assists in a game.

Rookie Jair Green was perfect on the day, hitting 7-7 from the field, 2-2 from three point range and 2-2 from the free throw line for 18 points to for with eight boards.

Senior Howard Blake III added 14 points, while junior Ace Henry hit for 12 points on four three pointers.  Sophomore Sean Mayo posted 10 points and six boards.

As a team, the Cavaliers shot a season-high 54.7% from the field, including a blistering 62.9% in the game's opening 20 minutes.

The Ravens scored the game's first points but less than three minutes later, the Blue and White took control of the action.  While the game remained tight in the early minutes, a two-handed offensive rebound dunk by Green spurred the Cavaliers to a 21-7 spurt midway through the first half to establish a comfortable cushion.

After holding Rosemont to just 33% shooting, including 2-14 from three point range, in the first half, Cabrini went into the halftime break with a 55-26 lead.

The Cavaliers showed no let up after the break, as the second half began with a Blake triple.  The Blue and White held off the Ravens, despite Rosemont connecting on eight second half three pointers.

Walton-Moss and Green put an exclamation point on the victory, as the senior hit the freshman for a 30-foot pass for an alley-oop that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Freshman Kane McGovern finished the day with eight points, one more than sophomore Ryan Charity.  Freshmen Michael Diggins and Jordan Brooks contributed with a combined five points, three rebounds and a pair of assists.

Cabrini dominated the painted area, outrebounding the Ravens 58-29.  The Cavaliers grabbed 22 offensive boards, turning them into 31 second chance points.  The Blue and White also scored 50 points in the paint to Rosemont's 24.

Junior Marcus Thomas led Rosemont (7-8, 5-3 CSAC) with 20 points, including six of the club's 10 three pointers.  Sophomore Dyshon Pack added 13 points off the bench as the Ravens saw their four gam win streak snapped.

The Cavaliers have little time to celebrate, as they will welcome the Keystone College Giants (3-10, 3-4 CSAC) to Nerney Field House on Monday.  Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m., as the second half of a women's and men's doubleheader.  The Cabrini ladies (12-3, 6-0 CSAC) will face Centenary College (3-12, 2-4 CSAC) at 6 p.m.
