ONEONTA, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team's win streak ended at four on Tuesday afternoon in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest at Dewar Arena, as the Hawks fell by an 84-63 final to host SUNY Oneonta.

Oneonta won the game largely due to its domination on the boards. The Red Dragons doubled up the Hawks, 48-24, in rebounds, and they pulled down 22 boards on the offensive glass. Oneonta also shot well from long range, hitting 39.3 percent (11-of-28) of its shots from beyond the arc. New Paltz did, however, shoot 42.9 percent (24-of-56) from the floor and 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from the free-throw line. The Hawks relied heavily on their bench, receiving 24 of their 63 points from reserves.

New Paltz drops to 6-7 overall (4-2 SUNYAC) with the loss and next visits SUNY Fredonia on Friday, Jan. 23, at 5:30 p.m. Oneonta snapped a four-game losing streak with the victory to improve to 6-8 overall (3-3 SUNYAC). The Red Dragons next take on Buffalo State on Friday, Jan. 23, at 5:30 p.m.

The two sides traded baskets early, and junior guard Keegan Donovan (Groton, N.Y./Groton) capped off a 7-0 run with a 3-pointer to give the Hawks their largest lead of the game (17-12) with 12:32 remaining in the first half. After Donovan scored on a layup less than two minutes later, the Red Dragons went on a 10-0 run that gave them the lead for good. Oneonta scored 18 of the half's final 28 points to forge a 44-31 advantage at the break.

After junior forward Kevin Roach (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) kicked off the second half's scoring with a 3-pointer, Oneonta constructed a 20-point lead off the strength of a 10-0 spurt. Following a Red Dragon trey, the Hawks scored six unanswered points, but Oneonta put the game away with a 24-9 run. New Paltz scored the final six points of the contest, including a jumper by freshman guard/forward Malik Seelal (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) with eight seconds left to spell the final score of 84-63.

Junior guard Zach Cone-Douglas (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) led the Hawks with a career-high-tying 15 points coming off the bench, shooting 4-of-8 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the line. Sophomore center Taylor Mulvey (Rotterdam, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) grabbed six boards, while senior guard/forward R.J. Rosa (North Branch, N.Y./Sullivan West) and sophomore forward Andrew Seniuk (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) each had three steals.

Senior guard Zach Mager led four Red Dragons in double-digit scoring with 19 points, which he achieved off 6-of-18 shooting from the floor—including a 5-of-13 mark from long range—and 2-of-2 shooting from the free-throw line. Junior forward Mikey McElroy and sophomore forward Lawrence Coleman posted 16 and 13 points, respectively, while junior forward Jackson Zuvic drained 12 points coming off the bench. Surprisingly, Oneonta did not have anyone reach double figures in rebounds; Coleman's eight served as the game-high. Senior guard Frankie Kelly dished out a game-high six assists.
