Baruch Stays Atop CUNYAC Standings, Defeat Brooklyn on Alumni Day

The Baruch College Bearcats stayed undefeated in conference play after defeating the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College, 85-74, in a CUNYAC contest on Saturday afternoon in the ARC Arena.

The first half on Alumni Day was tightly contested with the Bearcats owning a 33-32 halftime lead, but they started the second half with a 10-2 run to build a 43-34 advantage.


Raymond De La Cruzscored eight of the 10 points in the run, which included a pair of threes, to give the Bearcats (9-3, 6-0 CUNYAC) some breathing room against the Bulldogs (12-3, 5-2 CUNYAC).

The lead would later grow to 11 points (52-41), but the visiting Bulldogs came back with a 7-0 run to get as close as 52-49 with 12:03 remaining to force a timeout.

Following the timeout, the Bearcats caught fire again with De La Cruz,
Brian McMahonand Granville Gittenseach scoring a basket to get the lead back to nine points (58-49).

They controlled that advantage the rest of the game to seal the 85-74 victory and improve to a perfect 6-0 at home, while also sitting atop the CUNYAC standings with a 6-0 record.

De La Cruz led all scorers this afternoon by tying a career-high with 27 points (7-9 3fg). Gittens (17 pts, 6rbs, 2 blk),
Chimaechi Ekekeugbor(13 pts), and Edward Roscigno (10 pts, 10 asst) rounded out the double-figure scorers for a solid win in front of a large crowd.

Prior to the game, the annual men's basketball player alumni game took place in front of family, friends, and fans in attendance.

Baruch will quickly resume action on Monday, January 12, with a 7:30 pm home contest against The College of New Jersey.
