Hope Men's Basketball Routs No. 10 Ohio Wesleyan 87-61

Guard Alex Eidson tied a DeVos Fieldhouse shooting record to help the Hope College men's basketball team beat 10th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan 87-61 on Saturday.

The junior from Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), sank a record-tying, six 3-pointers en route to a season-high and game-high 22 points.

Hope now heads into Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play with a 7-4 overall record.

Eidson tied the 3-point record shared by four players, including him. He made six 3-pointers during a win against Kalamazoo last season.

Other Hope players to total six 3-pointers in a game at DeVos Fieldhouse are Derek VanSolkema (2008 vs. Olivet), Jesse Reimink (2007 vs. Calvin), and Stephen Cramer (2007 vs. Tri-State).

Eidson scored 17 second-half points as the Flying Dutchmen outscored Ohio Wesleyan (9-2 overall) by a 46-29 margin. He went 5-of-7 from 3-point range after halftime.

Junior forward Sam Otto of Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton North HS), chipped in a season-high 14 points off the bench for Hope.

Junior center Brock Benson of Willowbrook, Illinois (Hinsdale South HS), scored 11 points for the Flying Dutchmen. 

Benson also grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Hope outrebounded Ohio Wesleyan 45-26, with 11 players getting at least two rebounds.

Ohio Wesleyan was the sixth ranked team the Flying Dutchmen have faced this season.

Hope returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 7, with the MIAA opener at Trine.
