THREE COUGARS SCORE IN DOUBLE FIGURES AGAINST YORK COLLEGE

Brooklyn, NY- The Men's Basketball team fell to the York College Cardinals 85-80 earlier tonight. The Cardinals improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 CUNYAC, while the Cougars drop to 1-4 overall and 0-1 CUNYAC. 

The Cougars opened up with a 3-0 lead. York would take the lead at 4-3, when Omar St. John converted on a layup. They would then lead until 8:01 left in the half. Junior Guard and Co-Captain Pablo Segura, made two throws, giving the Cougars, a one point lead (20-19). Medgar Evers College would lead for the next three minutes, until York would regain the lead (29-27). Both teams would swap the lead, until York held on to it, for the final 3:53. York would lead 43-36 at the half.

In the 2nd half, the Cardinals led for most of the half. They built a 17 point lead at one point. In a span of two minutes, the Cougars cut the lead to six 62-56 (9-0 run). With 1:23 left in the game, Jaron Williams from York fouled Junior Guard Mark Hudson. Hudson would make a pair of free throws, giving the Cougars a 75-74 lead. Both teams would trade baskets, and the Cougars would lead once again by a point. After the layup from Freshman Forward Damani Guscott, the Cardinals would end of the game on a 8-4 run. 

In the loss, the Cougars were led by Freshman Guard Reynaldo Eloy with 20pts (8-15 FG-FGA and 4-7 3pt. FG-FGA). Eloy grabbed five rebounds, dished out a game high six assists, and added two steals. Freshman Forward Damani Guscott scored 18pts (8-13 FG-FGA and 2-2 FT-FTA). Guscott grabbed seven rebounds, dished out an assist, and added a block. Junior Guard Mark Hudson scored 16 points (2-6 FG-FGA and 12-13 FT-FTA). Hudson grabbed three rebounds, swiped away two shots, and gathered two steals. Senior Forward/Center and Co-Captain Valin Williams grabbed a game high 12 rebounds. 

In the win, York was led by Omar St. John, with 46 points. Two other student-athletes scored in double figures including the following: Cyril Reid (13 points) and Jaron Williams (11 points).

The Cougars will be back in action on Friday December 5, 2014, when they play the Lehman College Lightning. Game time will be 8:00 pm.
