AMHERST, Mass.—Senior Eric Dean (Gilford, N.H.) recorded his second double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 17 points and grabbing a season-high 12 rebounds to help 23rd-ranked Babson College defeat second-ranked Amherst College, 68-49, in non-conference men's basketball action on Thursday night at LeFrak Gymnasium.

With its seventh consecutive victory, Babson is now 8-1 on the year. Amherst, which has dropped consecutive home games for the first time since 2010, drops to 5-2 overall.

Senior John Wickey (Manchester, N.H.) finished with 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting and pulled down nine boards for the Beavers. Sophomore Sam Bohmiller (Franklin, Mass.) added 12 points while classmate Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) contributed nine points, eight rebounds and three assists in the win.

Sophomore David George (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lord Jeffs. Junior Connor Green (Bedford, N.H.) and first-years Jayde Dawson (Montreal, Quebec) and Johnny McCarthy (Medfield, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points apiece.

After a slow start for both teams, the Green and White used an 13-4 burst to open up a 10-point lead with 4:37 left in the opening half. Wickey and fellow senior David Mack (Holden, Mass.) scored five quick points, and Mack set up a dunk by Flannery with a long outlet pass to put the Beavers in front 20-14. Flannery hit an off-balance jumper on the next possession and first-yearBradley Jacks (Fort Washington, Md.) and Dean followed with hoops to put the visitors in front 26-16.

Amherst scored six quick points on a three-pointer by McCarthy and a three-point play by Green to cut its deficit to 26-22, but Babson closed the half with a 10-2 spurt to build a 36-24 lead at the break. Bohmiller buried a pair of treys and Wickey added four points of his own to give the Beavers a 36-34 halftime edge.

Despite making only two field goals in the first seven minutes of the second half, Babson used a suffocating defensive effort to maintain its lead. The Lord Jeffs got as close as 41-34 on a three-pointer by Dawson at the 12:42 mark, but an offensive rebound and putback by Wickey keyed an 11-1 run that put the game out of reach.

Wickey and Flannery scored on back-to-back trips to push the Beavers' lead to 47-34  with 9:47 remaining, and first-year John Motopoulos (Glenmont, N.Y.) followed a Green free throw with a three-pointer from the right wing to make it 50-35. Flannery gave the Green and White a 17-point lead on the following possession, slicing through the lane and converting a feed from Mack to make it 52-35 with 8:24 left in the game.

Amherst cut its deficit to 13 on three occasions, the last coming at 56-43 with 3:36 to go in the contest before Dean and Bohmiller combined for eight straight points to give Babson its biggest lead of the night at 64-44 with 1:19 to play.

The Beavers outscored the Lord Jeffs 34-24 in the paint and held a 47-35 edge on the glass against the nation's top rebounding team. The Green and White, which shot 42.6 percent (26-of-61) on the night held Amherst to just 30.4 percent (17-of-56) from the floor and became the first team to hold them under 50 points since the end of the 2010 season.

Both teams will break for final exams with Babson returning to action on December 31 when it hosts Colby at 1 p.m. Amherst will travel to Drew on December 30 for a 7 p.m. start.
