William Paterson Men’s Basketball Upends Montclair State, 81-62

WAYNE, N.J. – Junior forward Terik Bridgeman (Harlem, N.Y./Nia Prep) posted a double-double with game bests of 17 points and 12 rebounds as host William Paterson (6-2, 4-1 NJAC) upended visiting Montclair State (3-5, 1-4 NJAC), 81-62, in men's  basketball action Dec. 10.

 

The Pioneers never trailed the Red Hawks, scoring 12 of the game's first 15 points on their way to a 40-33 halftime lead. Bridgeman was 4-for-6 (.667) from the floor for 12 first-half tallies.

 

Back-to-back three-pointers by junior guard Manny Hernandez (Paterson, N.J./Paramus Catholic) made it a 46-33 score 81 seconds into the second period, and WP's lead hovered between 11 and 17 for the next 11 minutes until a 19-1 burst put the game out of reach at 81-52 with 2:14 on the clock.

 

Senior guard Sandy Burgos (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) had 16 points and three assists, sophomore forward Nick Smith (Elmwood Park, N.J./Memorial) finished with 13 tallies and junior guard Bright Mensah (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) posted nine points.

 

Junior forward Kevin McGorry was MSU's leading scorer with nine points. Sophomore guard Shaune Russell contributed eight tallies and a team-best seven rebounds.

 

William Paterson will finish its pre-Christmas schedule Saturday, Dec. 13, at FDU-Florham at 2:00 p.m.
