PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- A tough night shooting doomed the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team as Carthage setback the Pioneers 73-64 on Bo Ryan Court on Tuesday.

The Pioneers (3-2) shot a season-low 41 percent (25-61) and only made slightly over 38 percent (13-34) in the second half. The Red Men (2-2) went on to make over 60 percent (11-18) of their shots in the final half.

Jake Manning provided the Pioneers a spark off the bench with 14 points, while Boston Johnsonadded 13 points and a team-best six rebounds.

The Pioneers fell behind early, 19-9, and trailed by as many as 15 points, 35-20, in the first half. UW-Platteville managed to put together an 11-0 run in the final 4:39 of the opening half, cutting their deficit to four points, 35-31, at intermission.

A layup by Manning and then a three-pointer by Cory Vaassen to open the second half, gave the Pioneers their first lead of the game, 36-35.

A three-pointer by Matt Oestreich gave UW-Platteville its largest led of the game, 49-44, at the 14:20 mark, but a four and half minute scoring drought helped Carthage go on a 10-0 run, 54-49.

The Pioneers battled back to get within two, 59-57, and forced Carthage to take a timeout. Out of the timeout, the Red Men went on to score seven unanswered, taking a 66-57 lead with just over two minutes to play. The Pioneers were forced to foul and Carthage made its free throws down the stretch to come up with the 73-64 road victory.
