BEXLEY – Sophomore Law Williams scored a career-high 24 points, but it wasn't enough as the Wilmington College men's basketball team fell to Capital Wednesday, 90-79, in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams at the Capital Center.

Williams (Dayton, OH/Thurgood Marshall) was 6-of-8 from the line, and 9-of-10 from the foul line, while pulling down five rebounds. He scored seven of Wilmington's nine points in its 9-0 spurt in the first half that gave the Fightin' Quakers their first lead of the game.

The lead changed hands numerous times in the final five minutes of the half, but a three-pointer with six seconds left in the half allowed the hosts to take the lead into the locker room. The three jumpstarted a 14-3 run that pushed the Wilmington deficit to double figures.

Once again Williams was in the middle of a run that put WC in the middle of the game. The Fightin' Quakers scored 10 of 13 points in the middle of the second half, trimming its deficit to six.

However, Wilmington couldn't get any closer to five in the final eight minutes.

Defense continues to plague the Fightin' Quakers as Capital shot 60 percent from field, and Wilmington committed 26 fouls, allowing the Crusaders to march to the foul line 35 times. Nearly half of Capital points came around the rim, scoring 42 of 90 points in the paint.

Senior Dwight Johnson (Dayton, OH/Jefferson) added 14 points, five rebounds and three assists, while sophomore John Righter (Pataskala, OH/Licking Heights) added 13 points and four rebounds off the bench.

Wilmington (1-4 overall, 0-1 OAC) hosts Marietta 3 p.m. Saturday at Fred Raizk Arena in Hermann Court.
