BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Keegan Pieri tallied 11 points in each half to pace Bowdoin College to a 67-48 non-conference men's basketball win over the University of New England on Tuesday evening (Nov. 25) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Polar Bears improve to 4-0 on the young season, while Big Blue slips to 1-3. It was the first meeting between the teams since early in the 2009-10 campaign.

Pieri's 22 was supported by John Swords and Bryan Hurley, who registered 15 and 14 points, respectively. Swords also collected a game-high 11 rebounds and four blocks; Hurley dished out six assists against zero turnovers at the point.

Bowdoin finished with a 44-30 advantage on the boards and recorded all of the game's 13 points at the free throw line.

UNE received a team-best 13 points from Evrim Ozkan, and Jean-Luc Parker chipped in with 10. Sam Thomas contributed seven rebounds and a pair of rejections.

The Polar Bears never trailed in the contest, and led 17-6 by the midway mark of the opening half. That gap remained at intermission (37-26), with the visitors connecting on just under 50 percent (16 of 33) of their field goal tries.

The Nor'easters pulled within seven (47-40) during the initial portion of the 2nd frame on a trey by Ozkan, but Pieri restored the double-digit cushion with a 7-2 run. Bowdoin scored the last 11 points of the night over the closing five minutes to extend to the final result.

Bowdoin gets back to work next Monday (7:30 p.m.) with a visit to Babson College. A day earlier, UNE is slated to entertain Bates College (5 p.m.).
