Wheaton men's basketball tops Benedictine 86-73

Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder men's basketball team picked up an 86-73 victory against Benedictine University on Tuesday night in King Arena. Wheaton is now 3-2 on the year, while the Eagles fall to 2-1. The Thunder will return to action next Tuesday at University of Chicago.

The Thunder led 18-17 with 11:10 remaining in the first half when the hosts put together an 11-2 run to take a 29-19 lead with 7:24 remaining in the game. Wheaton closed out the final three minutes of the first half with an 11-5 run to lead 49-35 at the halftime intermission.

The Thunder led by as many as 18 points in the second half and held a double-digit lead throughout the entire first half.

Brayden Teuscher led the Thunder with a career 29 points tonight. The senior shot 10-of-13 from the field and was 9-for-9 at the free throw line. He also added five rebounds and three steals. Teuscher led five Thunder players in scoring double digits.

Michael Berg tallied 16 points for the hosts as he shot 6-of-8 from the floor. Riley Teuscher was 3-of-3 from behind the three-point arc to score 11 points and Peter Smith added 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting. Caleb DeMoss scored 10 points, with three assists.

Wheaton shot 61.7% (29-of-27) from the field, including 69.2% (18-for-26) in the first half. The Thunder drained 62.5% (5-for-8) from three-point range and 95.8% (23-of-24) at the free throw line. The Eagles posted a 48% (24-of-50) effort from the field, including 53.8% (7-for-13) from three-point range and 90% (18-of-20) at the free throw line. The guests held a 24-21 edge in rebounding and an 11-6 advantage on the offensive glass.

Michael Blaszczyk led the Eagles with 27 points and John Dodson added 13 points for the guests.
