ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In the opening matchup of the 30th Annual Harold J. Brodie Tournament hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology, the Maritime Men's Basketball team handled the Alfred State Pioneers by the score of 93-66.

For Maritime, it was the team's largest margin of victory since the 2013-14 season opener when the Privateers knocked off Sarah Lawrence in the Admiral's Classic by 30 points.

Leading the way for Maritime was sophomore guard Brendon Halligan (Durham, N.Y./Cairo-Durham), as he shattered his previous career-high with 22 points on the evening. Freshman John Liccese (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) was second on the team as the rookie guard picked up 13 points. Overall on the night, 15 different players collected at least one point with many coming in each player's collegiate debut.

Sophomore Liam Ryan (Buffalo, N.Y./Nichols) added nine points, with rookie Patrick MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) picking up seven. Senior T'Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas/Sunland Baptist Academy) contributed with six, followed by senior Sean Corley (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy), sophomores Darien Bryan (Jamaica, N.Y./Queens Teaching) and Isaiah Hayes (Jamaica, N.Y./Queens Teaching), and rookies Christian Bilger (Wimberley, Texas/Wimberley), Kevin Blessington (Lynbrook, N.Y./East Rockaway) all registering five points each.

Sophomore Tim Hoch (Coventry, R.I./Fishers Island (N.Y.)) collected four points, followed by junior Tim McNamara (Somerville, N.J./Somerville), sophomore Bobby Parlow (Bay Head, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach), and freshman Tim McQuail (Middle Village, N.Y./Cathedral Prep) each connecting on two points each. Freshman Naseer Stevenson (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) sank 1-of-2 from the charity stripe to cap off Maritime's offensive night at 93 points. This was the first time a Privateer squad had put up at least 93 points since early December of 2007, when Maritime knocked off Bard 101-77.

After falling behind by a quick 6-0 score, Maritime responded as Corley picked up the first point of the night on a free throw. Liccese then followed with a three-pointer to pull the Privateers back within one possession, before the rookie guard tied the game at six with a jumper.

The Privateers tied the game on two occasions before taking the lead at 12-10 when MacDonald sank a layup, followed by yet another Liccese three-point basket. Alfred State then regained a six-point edge, but once again the Privateers battled back to tie and overtake the lead as Ryan hit a three-pointer before Corley sank a pair from the line. Hoch and Bryan scored the next four points, followed by a three-point basket by Halligan to cap off Maritime's 12-0 run.

Alfred State was able to close the gap back down to three points, but the Privateers held off the Pioneer rally and took a 39-34 lead into the halftime break.

After the intermission, Gibson stepped back for a three-pointer to start off the period and give Maritime an eight-point lead. The lead reached double-figures as Hayes sank a layup, then Halligan put up another three-pointer off a pass from Corley to put Maritime ahead 49-35.

Several minutes later, Halligan went on an individual tear that saw the sophomore pick up 11 unanswered points in the game on a trio of three-pointers and a layup to give Maritime total control of the game with a 23-point advantage.

Blessington gave Maritime a 24-point lead, followed by a layup from Ryan, and another long-range three-pointer from Liccese. Bryan then went 1-of-2 at the line to give Maritime a 30-point lead at 75-45 with 10:32 to go in regulation. The lead reached 35 as Bryan sank another free throw with 7:51 left.

The lead hovered around 30-points for Maritime through the final stretch of the matchup with the final horn sounding as the Privateers flexed their muscles in the 93-66 victory.

Maritime dominated in terms of points off of turnovers as the Privateers led 44-18 in that category as Maritime forced 18 turnovers with Corley and Liccese having four steals each to lead the way. The team was well balanced in rebounding as Hayes led the squad with seven boards, including four on the offensive side. The Privateers as a team totaled 40 rebounds on the night to Alfred State's 28.

Maritime (2-2) will continue its weekend series in Rochester as the team will now take on host Rochester Institute of Technology for a 1 p.m. tip tomorrow afternoon. Alfred State (0-4) will take on D'Youville tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. in the second game of the second day of the Brodie Tournament.
