Thomas More Falls, 81-68, at Rival Hanover

(HANOVER, Ind.) – The Thomas More College men's basketball team fell, 81-68, to traditional rival Hanover College tonight (Wednesday, November 19, 2014) in a non-conference game at Collier Arena in Hanover, Indiana.

With the loss the Saints fall to 1-1 on the season and with the win, the Panthers improve to 1-1 on the season.

Hanover jumped out to an early 10-2 lead when Wes McKinney made a lay-up with 17:32 to play in the first half.  The Saints answered with a 13-6 run capped by a jumper by senior forward Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) to cut the lead to 16-15 with 12:28 to play in the opening half.  The Panthers used an 11-0 run to extend the lead to 27-15 with 9:01 to play in the first half when Jacob Steinhardt made a lay-up.  Thomas More responded with an 18-6 run to tie the game at 33-33 with 2:01 to play in the first half when freshman guard Daniel Williams (Louisville, Ky./Jeffersontown) made three free-throws.  Hanover closed out the half on a 7-0 run to take a 40-33 lead at halftime when Jaren Hornbeak made a three-pointer with 39-seconds to play in the half.

The Panthers opened the second half on a 15-9 run to extend their lead to 55-42 with 13:36 to play in the game when Michael Van Kleunen made a lay-up.  Thomas More answered with a 15-5 run capped by two Mumford free-throws to cut the lead to 60-57 with 8:08 to play in the game.  That would be as close as Thomas More would come as Hanover closed out the game on a 21-11 run for the 81-68 win.

The Saints were led in scoring by Mumford and sophomore guard/forward Nate McGovney (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County), who each had 18 points.  Two Saints just missed double-digit scoring as Williams finished with nine points and sophomore guard Drew Mays (Union, Ky./Ryle) added eight points.  McGovney led the team in rebounding with nine, while Mays led the team in assists with four.

Thomas More returns to action on Friday and Saturday (November 21 and 22) when it hosts the Coach Jim Connor Classic at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.  The Saints will play third-ranked Augustana (Ill.) College on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Brescia University on Saturday at 4 p.m.
