CINCINNATI, Ohio – A scoring drought over the final 3 ½ minutes extinguished Albion's quest of an upset of No. 3-ranked Augustana (Ill.) in the opening round of the College of Mount Saint Joseph Tip-Off Classic.

Albion forged a 47-46 lead on Travell Oakes' layup but the Britons misfired on their final four shots.

Augustana answered Oakes' score with a 3-point basket by Hunter Hill. Augustana continued to hold a 49-47 lead until Griffin Pils knocked down a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left.

Augustana led by as many as eight in the second half, but it was never able to throw the knockout punch. Jordan Herron and Oakes scored four points each as Albion ripped off an 8-0 run to seize the brief lead.

Herron finished with 12 points and nine rebounds and Oakes produced 10 points and seven rebounds for Albion.

Pils provided a spark off the bench for Augustana, chipping in with 12 points.

Albion will go in search of its first win of the season Sunday afternoon when it takes on Berry College.
