REDLANDS — Juwan Rice scored a career-high 23 points and couldn't be stopped in transition. He blew past defenders all night for easy baskets, and when help defense came, he found dumped it off to the Oxy big men on the blocks for layups.

But the junior do-it-all guy for the Occidental College men's basketball team fouled out around the 4-minute mark and the Tigers couldn't escape a rowdy Redlands atmosphere with a win in their last game of the season.

Oxy fell 86-84 in a game that had a frantic tempo and went back and fort, with the score changing hands 11 different times in 40 minutes – most of them in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Rice checked out of the game with five assists and two steals to go along with his big scoring night.

Oxy freshman Jay Miller also fouled out -- with nine points -- on two close charge calls down the stretch.

After Redlands was able to go up 86-81 with 20 seconds left, Kory Hamane banked in a desperation 3-pointer with less than 1 seconds left on a scrambling possession. Oxy tried to deny the ball in bounds to get one last chance, but was unsuccessful.

Oxy seniors Kris Montoya and Ty Cobb both finished their careers with solid games. Montoya, the leading scorer for the Tigers for the past two seasons, finished with 12 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Cobb scored 11 and grabbed seven rebounds.

Senior Sam Van Buren also played his last game as a Tiger.

Oxy finishes the season 11-14 overall and 6-10 in SCIAC.

Eric Radford led the Bulldogs with 18 points, Alex Rudd scored 12 and Ian Gordon added 11.

Oxy point guard Kory Hamane was a big reason for the game's fast-paced temp, pushing the ball up the court nearly every time he caught an outlet pass. The sophomore point guard finished with 10 points and two assists.

Sophomore Andrew Garrison played eight solid minutes off of the bench, grabbing nine rebounds to go along with five points.
