The Millikin men's basketball scored a 99-81 victory over North Park University on Saturday, Feb. 15 in the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill.
The Big Blue released a season full of frustration in the early going starting with a great deal of energy pushing them to a 12-0 run to start the game. Millikin was up 27-9 with 11 minutes left to play in the first half before the Vikings started to get their offense on track. Millikin had a 48-33 advantage at the half. Millikin answered very North Park run in second half allowing the Vikings to get only as close as nine points on two different occasions.
Millikin shot 59 percent from the field including 56 percent (10-18) from three point range. The Big Blue hit on 70 percent (16-23) of its shots in the second half. Millikin edged the Vikings in the rebounding battle 35-32. North Park shot 47 percent from the field on the game.
Millikin had four players in double figures in scoring including two players that hit career highs in points. Jacob Kueker led Millikin with a career high 30 points shooting 9-12 from the field including 6-7 from three point range. Deavis Johnson had his ninth double double of the year scoring a career high 26 points and pulling down 15 rebounds. Johnson also had five assists. Tives Gardner added 14 points and Parker Day had 11.
Juwan Henry led North Park with a game high 39 points scoring 26 points in the second half.
Millikin honored the 1988-89 Big Blue team that was the last Millikin men's basketball team to win a CCIW title. Head Coach Joe Ramsey, Assistant Coach Tim Littrell and several of the players were on hand giving the 2013-14 edition of the Big Blue an little addition inspiration.
Millikin is now 8-15, 2-10 and North Park is 4-19, 1-11.
Millikin hosts Elmhurst College on Feb. 19 in a makeup game at 7 p.m.
