Simon Puts Up 18 as R-MC Downs Emory & Henry

ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Andre Simon (Newport News, Va./Menchville) finished with 18 points and nine rebounds as No. 21 Randolph-Macon used a pair of 15-0 runs to defeat Emory & Henry 65-39 in ODAC men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Crenshaw Gymnasium.

Junior Connor Sullivan (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day School) scored 11 for the first-place Yellow Jackets (18-5, 12-2), while junior Akeem Holmes (King William, Va./King William) added 10 points and five boards off the bench.

The Yellow Jackets took an early 4-2 lead before a 19-6 spurt by the Wasps (2-20, 0-13) gave the visitors a 21-10 advantage with 11:35 remaining in the period. R-MC scored 15 straight points over the next nine minutes to assume a 25-21 advantage. Sullivan scored on a layup to give the Yellow Jackets a 22-21 lead, a lead they would not relinquish. A three-pointer by Sullivan capped the 15-point run. R-MC would take a 30-26 advantage to the locker room at intermission. Simon led the Yellow Jackets with 13 points and four boards in the first period.

A layup by Badger four minutes into the second half gave R-MC its first double-digit lead at 38-28. E&H hit two buckets to cut it to six before the Yellow Jackets scored seven straight to take a 45-32 advantage with 11 minutes remaining. After a Wasp basket, R-MC again scored 15 straight over a seven-minute stretch to take a commanding 60-34 lead with less than four minutes remaining. The Yellow Jackets finished with a 65-39 victory.

R-MC held E&H to 13 points in the second half. The Wasps were 6-23 (.261) from the floor, 0-5 on three-pointers and 1 for 6 (.167) from the free throw line in the second period. E&H extended its losing streak to 20. The Yellow Jackets held a 45-28 advantage on the boards, as the victors had 21 offensive rebounds.

Randolph-Macon plays its final home game and its penultimate regular-season contest on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. against Hampden-Sydney at Crenshaw Gymnasium.
