Men's Basketball Falls to Nazareth in Home Finale

More news about: Elmira

Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's basketball team was unable to carry the momentum from last night's last-second victory over Ithaca College as the Soaring Eagles fell to visiting Nazareth College, 75-49. Neil Randolph '15 led the Purple and Gold with 21 points before fouling out with 6:08 to play, but EC was unable to stop the Golden Flyers offensively as Nazareth shot 54 percent for the game.

Chris Cassidy '14 joined Randolph in double figures with 11 points, his lowest output since his insertion into the starting lineup on January 31st. Cassidy missed his third free throw attempt of the afternoon, snapping his consecutive made free throw streak at 31.

EC showed no ill effects from the previous game early on as Randolph and Cassidy combined to score the first nine Elmira points as Nazareth led 10-9 just over four minutes into the contest. The Golden Flyers opened up a seven point lead on a quick 8-2 run but the Purple and Gold quickly ended the run with a Randolph three-pointer. The lead continued to hover around four points for much of the remainder of the half, but Nazareth closed the final three-plus minutes of the half on a 12-5 run to take an 11 point lead into the locker rooms.

The Soaring Eagles struggled to get things going in the second half as Nazareth limited EC to just four made field goals. The Golden Flyers opened the half on a 10-2 run to break open a 19-point lead and held the double-digit advantage for the remainder of the game as Elmira fell 75-49.

EC will be back in action next weekend as the men close out the 2013-14 regular season on the road. The Soaring Eagles will take on Stevens Tech on February 21st at 6:00 p.m.
