Terriers Fall Short to Colby in Battle of Elm City, 79-63

With the victory, Colby claims their first victory between the inner-town rivals since the 2009-1 season.

The Mules got off to a fast start and led 24-12 with 8:13 to play in the first half. Thomas slowly chipped away at the lead, pulling to three at 31-28 on a 1-for-2 effort from the free throw line from Stanley Greene Jr. with 1:45 remaining. The Mules used a 6-2 run to take a 37-30 margin at the break.

Colby stayed in front the entire second half, but the Terriers did cut the lead to 39-37 on a 3-point play by Manzo with 18:18 left. With the score 50-45, Chris Hudnut scored five straight points to push the margin to 10. Colby extended the lead in the final 10 minutes and led by as much as 18 points.

Greene Jr. added 16 points, four steals, and four assists for the visitors, and Justin Murray had five points and seven rebounds. Shaun Munson added seven points on 3-for-3 shooting for the Red and Black.

Chris Hudnut scored 22 of his team-high 25 points in the final 20 minutes for Colby, while Connor O'Neil added 12 points, four steals, and three assists in the victory. Sam Willson added 12 points and seven boards, while Ryan Jann had 11 points and seven rebounds.

Thomas will be in Vermont over the weekend as they return to conference play. The Terriers will take on Green Mountain on Friday at 5:30pm, then battle Castleton on Saturday for a 1pm matinee.
