McGovney Scores Career-High 17 Points to Lead Saints to an 81-54 Win Over Westminster

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Freshman guard/forward Nate McGovney (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) scored a career-high 17 points to lead the Thomas More College men's basketball team to an 81-54 win over Westminster College tonight (Wednesday, February 12, 2014) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints extended their season-high winning streak to six games as they improve to 12-9 overall and 11-2 in the PAC. With the loss, the Titans fall to 3-19 overall and 2-11 in the PAC.

Westminster jumped out to an early 8-2 lead when Paul Carswell converted a four-point play with 17:54 to play in the first half. Thomas More answered with a 24-10 run capped by a McGovney three-pointer with 9:41 to play in the opening half to take a 26-18 lead. The Titans responded with a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 26-22 with 8:16 to play in the opening half when Charlie Wallander made a lay-up. The Saints put together a 10-2 run to extend the lead to 36-24 on a McGovney three-pointer with 5:15 to play in the opening half. The Titans closed out the half on a 10-8 run to cut the lead to 44-34 at halftime.

Thomas More led by as many as 29 points in the second half as it out-scored Westminster 37-20 in the half to win the game, 81-54.

Four other Saints joined McGovney in double-figure scoring as junior guard/forward Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) had 16 points, senior guard D'Carlo Hayes (Louisville, Ky./Male) had 14 and senior forward Brandon Housley (Covington, Ky./Holmes) finished with 12. Senior forward Josef Marshall (Dayton, Ohio/Trotwood Madison) led the team on the boards with a game-high 10 rebounds, while he and Hayes led the team in assists with five each.

Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (February 15) as it travels to Greenville, Pennsylvania to play Thiel College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Beeghly Gymnasium.
