Geneseo Too Much For Oneonta In 83-69 Victory

ONEONTA, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior guard Connor Fedge scored a game-high 27 points while junior forward Gordon Lyons totaled 21 points and nine rebounds to lead the Knights past Oneonta, 83-69, Saturday on the road.

Leading by six at halftime, 44-38, Geneseo would use a 20-8 run in the first eight minutes of the second half to pull away, building its lead to as many as 23 down the stretch.

"I thought our defense in the second half was outstanding," said head coach Steve Minton. "And our defense led to some layups which really opened up the game.

Oneonta made it a three-point game, 49-46, with 17:07 on the second-half clock, but a Lyons layup at 16:33 kicked off a 15-1Knights' run that staked the visitors to a 64-47 edge at 12:01. An 11-6 Red Dragon run made it a 70-58 game, but Geneseo would score 11 unanswered to build its largest lead of the game, 81-58, with 4:43 to play. 

Geneseo cashed 15 Oneonta turnovers in for 21 points as the Knights (13-2, 7-1 SUNYAC) earned their seventh-straight victory.

Geneseo returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Oswego at 8:00 p.m. The Knights defeated the Lakers on the road, 66-62, on Jan. 18 in the two teams' first meeting of the season.
