Pioneers earn big win at Ripon

Kevin Hurd scored a team-best 21 points a three other Pioneers reached double figures  in scoring to lead the Carroll University men's basketball team to a 79-75 Midwest Conference victory at Ripon College.
 
Andrew Nottling added 17 points and nine rebounds with fellow big man Alec Molter recording 15 points and eight rebounds. Kyle Keranen chipped in with 12 points while Christian Shepley added a game-high eight assists.
 
Carroll took a one point lead into the break (27-26) but broke open a tight game midway through the second half to extend to a game-best 15 point advantage. The Red Hawks lead 40-38 with 13:46 to play but the Pioneers would go on a 29-12 run over the next 10-plus minutes for a 67-52 lead at the 2:58 mark.
 
Carroll shot 53.8% from the field for the game, including 66.7% shooting in the final 20 minutes.
 
The Red Hawks made the score more respectable down the stretch but Carroll's lead was never in jeopardy.
 
The victory improves Carroll to 12-7 overall, 9-5 in the MWC while the Red Hawks fall to 11-7 overall, 8-5 in league play. More importantly, the Pioneers leapfrog the Red Hawks for third place in the league standings.
 
Molter's 15 points pushed him past the 1,000 career-point plateau. The senior now has 1,008 career points to go along with 598 career rebounds and a program all-time best 78 blocked shots. Molter is the 15th Pioneer in history with 1,000 career points and just the fifth player in team history to score 1,000 career points and grab 500 career rebounds.
