WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster was in control from start-to-finish during its game with Kenyon College on Wednesday night, as the 11th-ranked Fighting Scots never trailed and were ahead by 18 or more the whole second half of the 86-56 North Coast Athletic Conference win at Timken Gymnasium.

Wooster (17-3, 11-2 NCAC) regains sole possession of first-place in the NCAC, thanks to No. 22 Wittenberg University's 66-55 victory at No. 13 Ohio Wesleyan University.

The Scots' backcourt duo of Xavier Brown and Doug Thorpe each scored five points during the game's opening three minutes, resulting in a 10-2 lead, then Kenyon (10-10, 6-6 NCAC) clawed back within 13-11, but that was as close as the visitors would get.

Fueled by five points from Jalen Goodwin, Wooster later added a 12-4 run, pushing the margin to double figures for the first time at 29-17 just past the midway point of the first half.

One more significant push, an 11-2 stretch the final four minutes, which included two Scott Purcell 3-pointers, allowed the Scots to take a 48-30 cushion into the halftime break.

After the Lords scored four quick points early in the second, Wooster called timeout, refocused, and tallied 10 unanswered points. That made it a 60-34 game at the 15:00 mark, and the lead never dipped under 20 the remainder.

Statistically, the Scots had their second-best shooting performance of the season, hitting 51.6 percent from the field (32-for-62), and their second-highest rebounding margin of the season, plus-11 (41-30).

Brown paced four Wooster players in double-digits with 21 points on 7-of-12 shots from the floor and 6-of-6 free throws. He also led the team in rebounding with eight.

Thorpe made his first four shots en route to a 15-point night, while Evan Pannell and Purcell chipped in 10 points apiece. Also of note, Goodwin matched a season best with seven points.

Brian Lebowitz had a team-leading 14 points for Kenyon.

The Scots will be on the road Saturday at Denison University (9-10, 5-7 NCAC) at 3 p.m.
