Centenary Falls At Neumann

ASTON, Pa. – The Centenary College men's basketball team was defeated at Neumann 72-51 in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at the Mirenda Center.
 
The Cyclones (4-14, 3-8 CSAC) led 11-10 at the 13:18 mark following a basket from freshman forward Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J./Ewing), but a 16-5 Knights run over the next 11 minutes put Neumann in front by double figures.
 
Senior guard Kyle Malavasi (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) buried a three-pointer with under a minute to play in the half to chop Neumann's lead to just five; however, NU scored the final four points of the stanza to snare a 32-23 halftime advantage.
 
Neumann used an 8-0 spurt to move its lead to 15 early in the second half and steadily increased it to 19 over the next four minutes.
 
Freshman guard Zachary Duymich (Millstone Twp., N.J./Allentown) sank a pair of free throws and junior Djovan Beausejour (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) buried a three-pointer on the Cyclones' next possession as Centenary pulled within 13.
 
The Cyclones cut the deficit as low as 12 during the final six minutes, but could not get any closer.
 
Malavasi paced Centenary with 12 points, while Beausejour added nine points and nine rebounds. The Cyclones shot 32 percent (19-60), including just 4-of-20 shooting from beyond the arc.
 
Kevin Green poured in a game-high 21 points to lead Neumann, which connected on 47 percent (27-58) of its shots from the floor. The Knights held a 42-35 edge on the boards.
 
Centenary is on the road again Saturday when it visits Baptist Bible looking for a season sweep of the Defenders at 2:00 pm.
