Berlekamp's Season-High 15 Points Leads Saints to a 79-54 Win Over Grove City

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Senior guard Spencer Berlekamp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) scored a season-high 15 points to lead the Thomas More College men's basketball team to a 79-54 win over Grove City College today (Saturday, January 25, 2014) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 8-10 overall and 7-2 in the PAC. With the loss, the Wolverines fall to 8-9 overall and 5-4 in the PAC.

Thomas More jumped out to an 11-6 lead with 15:39 to play in the first half when Berlekamp made a three-pointer. Grove City answered with a 5-0 capped by a Luke Tincha tip-in to tie the game at 11-11 with 13:44 to play in the opening half. The Saints closed out the half on a 33-15 run to take a 44-26 halftime lead with senior forward Joseph Marshall (Dayton, Ohio/Trotwood Madison) made a lay-up with six-seconds to play in the first half.

Grove City opened the second half on a 13-10 run to cut the lead to 54-39 with 11:06 to play in the game when Christian Durbin made a three-pointer. That would be as close as the Wolverines would come as the Saints led by as many as 27 points as they closed the game on a 25-15 run for the 79-54 victory.

Berlekamp led three Saints in double-figure scoring as senior forward Brandon Housley (Covington, Ky./Holmes) finished with 14 points and junior guard/forward Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) added 12 points. The Saints were led on the boards by Mumford, Housley, senior guard D'Carlo Hayes (Louisville, Ky./Male) and junior forward Jalen Clark (Frankfort, Ky./Western Hills), who each had four rebounds. Hayes and junior guard Eliot Pipes (Nashville, Ky./Hillsboro) led the team in assists with five each.

The Saints are idle until next Saturday (February 1) when they travel to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania to play Waynesburg University at 3:30 p.m.
