Bayliss moves to fifth all-time on career assists list

LYNN, Mass. – Wheaton College junior guard Mike Cannon (New York, N.Y./Hyde School) led all scorers with a career-high 22 points to guide the Lyons to a 79-69 victory over Fisher College on Monday afternoon in non-conference action at Fectau-Leary Gymnasium.

Cannon scored 20 points alone off the bench in the first half going 8-for-13 from the field, 4-for-8 from beyond the arc and 2-for-2 at the free throw line to go along with eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Freshman guard Agyei Gregory (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands/St. Andrews) poured in 16 out of his 18 points in the second half, while classmate Quinton Dale (Winthrop, Mass./Taft School) notched ten points and grabbed nine rebounds. Freshman forward Zach Parsons (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) also contributed ten points, two rebounds and two assists.

Senior guard Will Bayliss (Manchester, N.H./Tilton School) collected seven points, hauled in six rebounds and dished out a game-high seven assists to surpass Wheaton College men's basketball all-time leading scorer Chris Sullivan '93 on the career assists list in program history. Bayliss now has 246 assists in 73 career games, two more than Sullivan who ranks in the top-10 in field goals made, three-point field goals made, three-point field goal percentage, free throws made, free throw percentage and steals.

Fisher sophomore guard Tyler Shular (Norwalk, Conn.) recorded a double with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting and a game-high ten rebounds (two offensive) to pace the Falcons. Junior forward Orlando Zayas (Boston, Mass.) added 11 points and eight rebounds and classmate Earnest McNeil (Boston, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points, seven boards and one block.

The Lyons went 40.0-percent overall (24-for-60) from the field in the contest, won the rebounding matchup 44-38 and handed out 19 assists. Fisher held a 38-20 advantage in points in the paint and a 13-4 differential in second chance points.

Leading 33-32 at the break, Wheaton's offense found its rhythm in the second half shooting 50.0-percent (12-for-24) from the floor while outscoring the hosts 46-37 in the stanza.  The Lyons broke open a 45-45 tie with 14:37 remaining in the game with a 20-11 run to take a nine-point lead at the 6:47 mark. Dale posted a team-high six points during the run, Gregory added five points and Parsons registered four points to highlight the spurt. The Blue and White kept Fisher at arm's length for the remainder of the contest eventually building up their largest lead of the game of ten points with 14-seconds to play.

Wheaton (7-6, 2-2 NEWMAC) travels to Emerson College for a conference clash on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Fisher (9-13) takes on Daniel Webster on Thursday at 6 p.m. on the road.
