EMU Men Shut Down Wasps In Final Minutes

More news about: Eastern Mennonite

EMORY, VA --- The Runnin Royals have their first ODAC winning streak of the season after picking up a hard-fought 72-58 win at Emory & Henry.  EMU took control of a back-and-forth contest with a run midway through the second to even up their conference record at 3-3.

Neither team led by more than seven points during a closely contested first half.  Eastern Mennonite led 31-30 at the intermission.

The first six minutes of the second half were just as tight, until a quick 7-0 run gave the Royals some breathing room with a 46-37 lead.  After a Wasp layup, the men scored five more to complete a 12-2 run, with David Falk (Madison, Va./Madison) adding a dunk to push the cushion to 51-39 with 9:29 left to play.

Emory & Henry got back to within five points, but the Runnin Royals kept their hosts scoreless for the final three minutes of play.  The men scored the final nine points in the game to secure the 72-58 decision.

Marcel Crump (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) and Falk were a two-headed monster as they combined to score 47 of EMU's 72 points.  Crump had a game high 26 points while Falk notched his ninth double double with 21 points and 15 rebounds.  The duo also combined to attempt 29 free throws.

Ryan Bush (Columbiana, Ohio/Salem) didn't miss a shot and put in nine points.  Woody Furbush (Bridgeton, N.J./Salem) grabbed a career best nine rebounds.

Charles Smith was the only Emory & Henry player to score in double figures as he finished with 12 points and six rebounds.

The Royals out-shot the Wasps 48% to 34%.

Eastern Mennonite is back above .500 with the win, at 8-7 overall.  They will look for their third straight victory on the road Wednesday, playing at Washington and Lee in Lexington.
