LANGHORNE, Pa. – Despite receiving double-figure scoring performances from all five starters, the Centenary College men's basketball team was defeated by Cairn 78-65 on Monday night.

Senior forward Joshua Case (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua) scored a team-best 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting, while freshman forward Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J./Ewing) recorded 12. Junior Djovan Beausejour (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) added 11 points, while senior Kyle Malavasi (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) and sophomore Clayton Roker (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) both chipped in with 10.

Centenary (2-11, 1-5) led 17-14 following Beausejour's three-point play at the 9:54 mark of the first half, but a 13-4 run by the Highlanders over the next nine minutes helped Cairn grab a seven-point advantage.

Jones connected on a pair of free throws with 54 seconds remaining to stop the run, but Darnell Clowney answered with two of his own as Cairn entered halftime with a 29-22 lead.

The Cyclones closed to within two points after Roker sank a layup; however, a J.D. Zamroz three-pointer on Cairn's next possession started a 13-2 spurt that gave the Highlanders a double-figure lead.

Malavasi ended the run with a triple that made the score 53-45. Zamroz once again provided the answer for Cairn, drilling a three of his own on the ensuing possession.

With under five minutes to play, Centenary got back into the game at the free throw stripe. The Cyclones knocked down six-straight free throws during an 8-2 surge that sliced Cairn's lead to just 59-55.

Centenary began fouling with two minutes to play, but the Highlanders managed to ice the game from the charity stripe, knocking down 14-of-16 tries during the final 120 seconds.

The Cyclones shot 39 percent from the field (22-56), but made just 3-of-18 attempts from beyond the arc. Cairn made nearly 44 percent (21-48) of its shots and held a 29-28 on the glass.

Obed Rivera sank 11-of-12 shots from the free throw line and paced all scorers with 19 points for Cairn, which made 31-of-39 shots from the charity stripe. Zamroz added 16 points, while Reuben Lacy tallied 14 points and eight rebounds.

Centenary continues its road swing on Wednesday at Gwynedd Mercy with tip-off slated for 7:00 pm.
