THOUSAND OAKS — Spencer Levy scored 18 points and Kory Hamane and Jay Miller each added 11.

But the Occidental College men's basketball team struggled from the field in a 79-59 loss at Cal Lutheran on Saturday.

Oxy shot just 30 percent in the loss.

Hamane and Levy each hit three 3-pointers and Miller had two. It was inside the arc where the Tigers couldn't find a bucket. Oxy started out the first half 2 for 16 on 2-point field goals and made just 11 on the game.

The Tigers fall to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in SCIAC play. Cal Lutheran improves to 11-2 and 2-2.

"It just wasn't our night," Oxy men's basketball coach Brian Newhall said. "We didn't play particularly well on offense or defense and the shots we had didn't go down. The good news is it's a long season and I still like our chances in all 13 remaining SCIAC games."

Cal Lu point guard Arik Smith led the Kingsmen with 20 points on 10 of 14 from the field. Corey Quintana scored 18, Guy Lynott added 17 and Coltrane Powdrill had 10.

The Tigers struggled to get easy baskets, forcing just nine turnovers.

Juwan Rice grabbed 10 rebounds and Ty Cobb had eight.

The Kingsmen shot 55 percent from the field.

The Tigers return to action on Jan. 8 at Whittier College at 7:30 p.m.
