UW-Whitewater Tops UW-River Falls 70-41

The score was tied 7-7 at the 15:45 mark when the Warhawks took over. UW-W gradually increased their lead and scored nine of the last ten points of the half to head into the locker rooms with a 31-19 advantage. Whitewater outscored the Falcons 16-4 in the paint and 10-0 off turnovers in the first twenty minutes. 

UW-W shot 48% from the floor and held the Falcons to just 31% in the first half. KJ Evans (Beloit/Beloit Memorial) led all scorers with 10 at the break.

Whitewater's lead hit 20 with 12:40 showing on the clock after Evans' jumper from long range gave the Warhawks a 48-26 lead. The margin would not dip below 20 points the rest of the way. The largest lead of the game for the Warhawks came at the 3:39 mark after a Steve Egan (Omro/Omro)free throw put UW-W up 30, 68-38. In the second half, UW-W posted 20 points in the paint and 15 points off turnovers. UW-River Falls recorded 10 points in the paint and two off turnovers. 

The Warhawks shot 49% (29-59) from the field in the game compared to 35% (17-49) for the Falcons. Whitewater held a 36-29 advantage on the glass including 11 offensive rebounds. 

Evans led all players with 21 points and five boards. Eric Bryson (Elkhorn/Elkhorn) added 20 points, including 4-6 from three point range, five rebounds and three assists in the game. 

UW-Whitewater will head to Oshkosh for their next contest. The Warhawks will face UW-Oshkosh in a WIAC match up Wednesday, January 8. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
