DC storms back in come from behind 70-68 victory at Alma

ALMA, Mich. - The Defiance College Yellow Jackets put together a second half comeback to defeat Alma College 70-68 Wednesday night at Art Smith Arena. The Yellow Jackets (3-0) overcame an 11-point deficit in the second half to down the Scots (0-3) in their home opener.

The Yellow Jackets used a 13-2 run in just over three minutes to draw even with Alma at 52 midway through the second half. Ryan Hicks scored six of his eight points in the contest during the run and Noah Reed added five of his eight as well, including a three-pointer from the corner to tie up the game.

After an Alma basket, Bernard Edwards hit a three and made two free throws to put DC into the lead. Reed followed it up with another three pointer to maintain DC's lead in the second half.

Following a couple traded baskets, Edwards put DC in lead for good with a layup to go up 65-64 with just under four minutes remaining. Mason Roth and Edwards connected on five free throws over the last few minutes and Edwards pulled down a rebound with a second remaining to seal the victory for Defiance.

Edwards scored 20 points to lead all Defiance scorers in the contest. Edwards was 4-for-7 from behind the arch in the game. He also had four rebounds.

Roth finished with 14 points and led the team with eight rebounds. He also dished out a team high four assists in the game and had a steal during DC's run to tie the game back up.

Hicks finished with 10 points and had five boards in the game. He also had a pair of steals and assists.

Defiance shot 7-for-14 from three-point range in the game and was 24-for-51 (47.1 percent) from the field. However, DC struggled from the free throw line in the game, making just 57.7 percent (15-26).

The Yellow Jackets made up for it with their performance on the boards. DC out-rebounded Alma 38-26, including 11 offensive boards, while only giving up two.

Defiance will return to action on Tuesday with the Yellow Jackets home opener against Ohio Northern. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
