GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Matt Curry and junior guard Andy Drescher each scored 16 points to lead the Knights to a 117-43 win over visiting Alfred State, Monday.

The 74-point margin of victory was the largest ever in the 94-year history of Geneseo basketball, breaking the former mark of 64 set in a 121-57 victory over Houghton on January 23, 1974. It was also the highest point total since the Knights finished one-point shy of the single-game scoring record in a 120-66 victory over visiting D'Youville on Nov. 24 of last season.

"Tonight was a good team win for our guys," said head coach Steve Minton. "We were able to get a lot of players into the game for some solid minutes and also had the opportunity to try out some new combinations that we'll be able to utilize during the rest of the season.

After Alfred State (0-8) scored the first basket of the game, the Knights (5-1) went on a 22-3 run, including three three-point field goals by Curry, to build a 17-point edge with 14:24 on the clock. The lead would balloon to 37 by halftime as Geneseo shot better than 57 percent from the floor over the first 20 minutes.

The Knights would cruise to victory in the second half, shooting over 53 percent for the game as five Knights finished in double-figure scoring, while 12 players finished with at least one field goal.

Junior forward Gordon Lyons registered his fourth-consecutive double-double, notching 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Geneseo will take a three-week hiatus for winter break before heading to the West Coast on Dec. 30 for a game at Puget Sound (Wash.). Game time is set for 7:00 PST.
