(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Four Saints reached double-figure scoring today (Saturday, December 7, 2013) as the Thomas More College men's basketball team defeated Waynesburg University, 88-63, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the PAC. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 4-4 and 0-2 in the PAC.

Thomas More jumped out to an early 13-6 lead with 11:48 to play in the first half when senior guard Spencer Berlekamp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) made two free-throws. Waynesburg used a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 13-10 with 10:39 to play in the half when Thomas Ellis made a lay-up. The Saints answered with a 23-6 run capped by a lay-up by junior guard/forward Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) to extend the lead to 35-16 with 2:01 to play in the half. Waynesburg's Byrum Louco converted an old fashion three-point play with six-seconds to play in the first half to cut the Saints' lead to 35-19 at halftime.

Waynesburg opened the second half on a 7-3 run to cut the lead to 38-26 when Jacob Fleegle made a jumper with 18:02 to play in the game. Thomas More responded with a 39-16 run to take its biggest lead of the game at 77-42 with 5:52 to play in the game when junior guard Al Upshaw (Cincinnati, Ohio/Gamble Montessori) made a lay-up. The Yellow Jackets closed out the game on a 21-11 run, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More won the game, 88-63.

Mumford led all scorers with 23 points as he was 10-of-13 from the field and three-of-three from the free-throw line. Joining him in double-figure scoring was senior guard D'Carlo Hayes (Louisville, Ky./Male) and freshman guard/forward Nate McGovney (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) with 13 points each and Berlekamp with 10. McGovney and Hayes led the team on the boards with seven rebounds each, while Hayes led the team in assists with four and Mumford led the team in steals with four.

The Saints are idle next week for final exams and return to the hardwood on December 17 when they host Hanover College. The non-conference game is scheduled to top-off at 7:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
