Tomcats fall to Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO – The Thiel College men's basketball team dropped a road contest to Youngstown State University, 82-58, at the Beeghly Center Wednesday evening.
 
Thiel had four players reach double-digit point totals in the contest. Sophomore guard Khari Bess (Waldorf, Md./Maurice J. Mcdonough) netted 15 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists and a game-high six steals. Junior forward Eric Mallinger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) registered 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while sophomore guard Luke Kochka (Monroeville, Pa. /Gateway) added 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor. Junior guard Charlie Thomas (North Warren Pa./Warren Area) chipped in 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting, including 2-for-3 from three-point range.
 
The Penguins had six players record double-digit point totals, led by senior forward Kamren Belin with a team-high 13 points and four rebounds. Senior guard and preseason Horizon League Player of the Year Kendrick Perry added 10 points and six assists, while junior guard DJ Cole (11), sophomore forward Ryan Weber (11), sophomore forward Bobby Hain (10) and junior forward Shawn Amiker each reached double-figures in the win.
 
Youngstown State outrebounded the Tomcats, 43-29, during the contest. Thiel shot 36.0% (18-of-50) from the field, including 30.8% (4-of-13) from three-point, and 58.1% (18-of-31) from the foul line. The Penguins were 49.2% (29-of-59) from the floor, 31.6% (6-of-19) from three-point, and 69.2% (18-of-26) from the charity stripe.
