POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (December 3, 2013) – The Drew University men's basketball team saw its three-game win streak come to a halt this evening with a 63-53 loss to Vassar College (4-1). The Brewers have won the last three meetings dating back to 2006 and drop the Rangers to 3-2 on the season.

Junior Chris Capelli (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) led the way for the Rangers with 14 points and eight rebounds. He helped keep the Rangers close in the second half, scoring nine of his 14 in the final 20 minutes. Sophomore Mike Klinger (Franklin Park, N.J./Rutgers Prep) chipped in 10 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Neither team shot the ball particularly well, with both teams hovering just above the 30 percent mark. The Rangers put up a season-low 53 points and made only 18 field goals on the night. The Brewers also struggled, sinking only 4-of-15 from beyond the arc. The difference in the end proved to be on the glass, with Vassar holding a 50-33 edge. The Brewers scored 17 points on second chance opportunities.

The first half was a tale of two runs. It was the Brewers who jumped out to a commanding 24-10 lead with 7:11 remaining in the half. Vassar opened the game by scoring 23 of the game's first 28 points. Just before the Brewers were able to pull away, the Rangers ripped off a 21-6 run to close out the first half. John Ford (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) and Steve Hydzik (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) accounted for 12 of the 21 points in 10:45 stretch, narrowing the Vassar lead to 29-26 at the half.

Despite the narrow edge, Vassar never gave up the lead throughout the second half. Vassar's Alex Snyder helped the Brewers keep the lead, scoring 11 of his game-high 15 points in the second half. He pulled down a staggering seven offensive rebounds in nine minutes on the floor in the second. He finished with 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. He scored nine of the Brewers final 16 points to close out the Rangers.

The Brewers Luka Laden also had a game-high 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Curtis Smith rounded out the Vassar double-digit scorers adding 11 points and three rebounds.

The Rangers will open up Landmark Conference play on Saturday when they travel down to the Nation's Capital to take on Catholic. Tip is schedule for 4:00 p.m. at the DuFour Center.
