Pioneer Men's Basketball beats Olivet, 56-45

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team defeated Olivet College, 56-45, on the final day of the Gabe Miller Tip-Off Classic on Bo Ryan Court. 

Junior Jake Manning led the Pioneers (2-0) with 11 points and was 7-for-9 from the free throw line. Jim Stocki added nine points and four assists, as he was named tournament MVP. Eric "Skip" GerberBoston Johnson and Peyton River all netted eight points apiece. Johnson was named to the all-tournament team as well as Olivet's Blake Krum. Krum scored 11 points and dished out a game-high five assists. 

The Pioneers made six of their 10 first half field goals from beyond the arc, taking a 32-23 lead in to halftime. 

A jumper by junior Wes Nemitz with just under 13 minutes to play gave the Pioneers their largest lead of the game, 39-25. UW-Platteville managed to hold off the Comets as the Pioneers didn't score a field goal in the final 6:33 of the game. Down the stretch the Pioneers used solid defense and made their free throws to secure the 56-45 victory. The Pioneers made 18-for-24 (75%) from the charity stipe and had the bench outscore OC's bench 13-2. 

UW-Platteville hosts Auguastana (Ill.) on Tuesday with tipoff set for 7 p.m. on Bo Ryan Court.
